Wordpress Content Migration - Migrating Your Website to a CMS

Content Management Systems...sound complicated, right? Well, they're actually not. In fact, Content Management Systems (CMS for short) are quite the opposite. If you're currently struggling with your website, or if you're in the process of having a website built, consider installing or migrating to a CMS. If you can type a Word document, you can pretty much manage your website's content with a Content Management System.

A CMS is a web application that creates your web pages. Having a CMS system installed when your website is created allows you, the site owner, the ability to edit on page text with tools very similar to the tools you use to edit a Word document. This simplicity is designed to allow everyday users to create and manage the site's content with little to no difficulty.

Content Management Systems make static, unchanging web pages a thing of the past as they empower the site owner the ability to edit at one's whim. Need to add a new blog post? No problem. Update your 'About Us' section? Not a problem. Converting a website to a Content Management System is not only beneficial for those that have a website that needs constant updating but having a CMS is also cost effect as site owners can rely on themselves, or their employees, to update content, add images, add a video, etc. practically eliminating the need to contract a web designer for simple on-site edits.

Wordpress and Drupal are two popular and notable Content Management Systems. These CMS's are important to mention because they are free open-source applications. The systems themselves have several active developers working on adding custom features, known as "plug-ins". Plug-ins, or available website add-ons, include shopping carts, photo-galleries, social media widgets, etc. The availability of plug-ins reduce the time it takes to initially develop the website and allows for website flexibility and growth as websites that utilize a CMS can easily expand their website's capability. The availability of plug-ins also reduces production costs as plug-ins have to be installed rather than made from scratch.

More importantly, a CMS helps your customers have a positive online experience with your organization and allows you to build and maintain a website that can grow with your needs. The ability to manage your website's content also ensures that you can keep your website relevant for your company and your customers. If you're thinking about migrating your website to a CMS don't hesitate, take your business and your website to the next level by implementing a Content Management System into your site.

WordPress, Joomla, Drupal or Custom Website

New clients usually contact me and ask me, "Should I have WordPress, Joomla, Drupal or a custom website for my business?" Even though the answer to this question includes many factors, I walk them through ten major disadvantages of using the Content Management System (CMS) like WordPress, Joomla and Drupal, so that they can make a right decision. Because of its importance and our expertise in custom application developments, I am inspired to write this article. For the sake of simplicity, I refer to WordPress, Joomla, and Drupal as CMS in the rest of this article:

I. Bugs And Errors

It is common to experience bugs and errors due to two reasons:

1. The CMS software engine updates at a higher frequency relative to other CMS plug-ins and libraries which causes website glitches.

2. Sometimes a new version of one CMS plug-in does not work properly with another plug-in or library which results in the website malfunctioning.

II. Pain Of Maintenances

As I had mentioned, you need to watch for all of the software patches or updates, and check them against all of the plug-ins or libraries used in your website. The CMS ideas were meant for dynamic contents, like bloggers or news companies, rather than basic static websites with static contents. As a result, it is not a cost-effective choice for static-based websites.

III. Differentiation Matters

Company branding and identity development starts from a company website and/or a mobile App. No matter what marketing budgets you have, customers associate your website with your products or services and, of course, your brand. It takes five-ten seconds after the first visit to a website to understand the company image and identity. The essence of differentiation is to stand your website out from the competitors while creating a sense of uniqueness for what they get. Indeed, it is only when your special organic contents are accompanied by a professional custom-made website that you gain competitive advantage over the other competitors.

IV. Security Is Missing

I personally do not regard CMS developers as programmers, since a high school student can publish a website in a few hours after watching a few tutorial videos. Unfortunately, the majority of the websites developed via CMS are done by people who have a little (if any) background in programming. The websites built by CMS do not come with pre-built security protection options, nor do novice developers can protect your CMS website against the common spammer, "Spider," and/or hacker attacks. I have seen many CMS websites and login systems with no password encryptions for their users. It means that if someone accesses their database, all of the user accounts will be compromised. In fact, recent studies have shown that people have a tendency to use one username and password for all of their online accounts.

V. Poor E-Commerce Support

Due to a lack of customizations and poor securities, it is not advisable to utilize CMS for your e-commerce and business transactions. Also, all of the e-commerce built-in plug-ins come with lots of unnecessary tools and poor database designs, both of which can impede your business productivity down the road.

VI. High Switching Costs

Most of the business owners do not know what is going to happen if one day they decided to migrate from a CMS website to a new one. Here are four things you will experience:

1. High cost of expert staffs for moving CMS contents to the new sites.

2. Website disorientations especially for the dynamic CMS pages.

3. SEO disorientations since most of the CMS-based indexed pages will no longer be available in search results.

4. Database nightmare as CMS databases are not normalized for scalability.

VII. Lack of Control

Building your website through CMS is to live at the mercy of lots of plug-ins and libraries in which you have no control. There are three consequences behind this:

1. As always, you get what you paid for, as though some paid CMS themes or plug-ins providers would poorly (up to three weeks) respond to your support requests without any liability for your business losses.

2. To keep your website up and running, you need to follow other third-parties developers even for minor patches or updates which can be very labor-intensive.

3. Sometimes one library depends on other sub-plug-ins or external sources to perform properly which is simply a nightmare for maintenance teams.

VIII. Why PHP And Not HTML

I have hard time understanding why a basic five page website for an accountant or an attorney needs to be done in CMS using PHP rather than the lovely HTML programming language. An HTML website has four advantages over a PHP one:

1. Ease of maintenances

2. Low cost of maintenances relative to PHP.

3. Ease of migration from one server to another

4. Faster server response times and better customer experiences.

IX. Mobile App Are Coming

Not only do most CMS developers not have experience in mobile App developments, but also do they barely know how to integrate a website with a mobile. Since the CMS is just catching up for patches for web-mobile integrations, it is better to consider this factor too.

You might wonder why the CMS is very popular and more websites adopt it on a daily basis in spite of all of the mentioned disadvantages. It stems from three reasons:

1. They are followers and follow what the others are doing without any foresights

2. They usually have tight budgets, like entrepreneurs or start-ups

3. They are not aware of discussed disadvantages.

No matter what has driven your business to a CMS-based website, it is never late to mend your online business model and strategy to streamline both website viewers and Smartphone holder experiences. I hope these discussed factors will shed enough lights on the main cons of CMS and guide you through a right decision.

Migrate WordPress Easily With Automated Tools

Is you web host giving your fits? Do you want to move to a new host but fear you won't be able migrate WordPress installs? It's not that hard to migrate WordPress - it's just a collection of files and a database. To outline how the internals of WordPress work, here is the process.

WordPress typically has a database allocated to it in your web hosting panel. It is generally a database that is dedicated solely for your WordPress site. This database has several tables attached to it, with the default names beginning with 'wp-'. These tables contain the blog posts, settings and configuration information for your blog. To migrate WordPress, you have to move the database to a new server. You can do this by exporting and importing the database using the PHPMyAdmin panel provided by your web host.

The other task of migrating WordPress is moving the actual Wardress files. There will be files in the root folder of your blog installation, along with several sub-folders, beginning with the name 'wp-'. Those files and folders also have to be copied down and saved. One file that is very important is the wp-config.php file - that file holds the configuration information peculiar to your blog installation.

Another important file to save is the .htaccess file - this file may contain important settings used by one or more of your plugins. Make sure that when you copy down your blog, you include this important file. Some WordPress installs will not have this file at all, however. One other issue some people have when migrating WordPress: the locations of image files.

By default, WordPress places image files under the wp-content folder; but some bloggers put header graphics, banner ads and other images in non-standard locations. When you are trying to move your blog, be sure you know where your images are located. If you don't do this correctly, you will see little placeholders with 'x's in them instead of images on your blog. If you have images in non-standard locations, be sure to download and copy those, too.

This sounds like a complicated process because well, it is. That is why there are automated tools that will take care of these details for you. Migrating WordPress by hand has it's pitfalls, and automation can really help.

How to Migrate From WordPress to Tumblr

If, for some reason, you want to move your WordPress blogs to Tumblr, there are several ways you can apply. There are even procedures that allow you to migrate everything, including your photos/images and comments. Although there is no process that's as easy as 1-2-3, there are steps that are quite simple to follow; steps that you can do on your own.

There are a lot of guides you can use for transferring your WordPress blog to Tumblr. What follows, however, is a slightly simple version that almost anybody can perform.

Step Number One

Of course, the first thing that you need to do is create your own Tumblr account (if you do not have one yet). It's easy to make one; you'll only need to sign up and then provide some basic personal information and you'll be able to create your account.

Step Number Two

Open your WordPress account and navigate to the Dashboard. Find the TOOLS command and choose EXPORT.

Then choose POSTS. Look for the tab that says DOWNLOAD EXPORT FILE and click on it. This will export all your WordPress posts.

Step Number Three

Your export file will appear as an XML file. You need to make sure, though, that every content you export has an actual data, as well as a content encoded section.

Step Number Four

Consider the fact that there is a limit to how many posts you can migrate to Tumblr every day. The safest number is 70. What you can do, though, is to create separate files for your XML file so you can be sure that each will have only 70 items. Remember that you need to keep the items encoded, i.e. - or s.

Step Number Five

You will then need to find a good PHP script. This link will provide you with one.

Then you'll have to insert or change some of the details with your information. Here are some specifics that you should follow:

For $xmlFile = 'MYEXPORTFILE.xml'; - indicate the XML file that you are importing.

For $tumblr_email = 'EMAIL'; and $tumblr_password = 'PASSWORD' - indicate your Tumblr username and password.

For $tumblrUrl = "http://YourTUMBLRID.tumblr.com"; - indicate your Tumblr URL.

Step Number Six

Identify the web location that you can use to access your XML file and tumblr_import.php. Upload both to that location. Run the PHP script.

Where you put the PHP file should be indicated in "mysite".

If you do this right, you'll be able to successfully move all XML file to Tumblr.

As mentioned in the early part of this guide, you can only import around 70 items to Tumblr in a day. So if you have to transfer more than the said amount, what you can do is skip one day before performing the import procedure again. You will only need to upload the XML file and then do this:

$xmlFile = 'MYEXPORTFILE.xml'; - change to the filename that you used before running the PHP.

These steps are meant only for WordPress sites that contain basic stuff like simple blog posts. Heavier content may not be supported by this procedure. Also, this migration alternative does not support the transfer of the images on your WP blog to Tumblr.

This is just one of the many ways you can migrate your posts from WordPress to Tumblr. There are many more options online. One involves the use of the Customize link on your Tumblr account and another uses the Export>Tools option of your WordPress blog.

How to Migrate From Drupal to WordPress

Are you a professional blogger? Then you must have understood the prominence of WordPress, overshadowing Drupal. Many professional bloggers are now converting their web pages from Drupal to WordPress. Reason? WordPress is easier, better, and user-friendlier. Many tech savvy people may argue that Drupal is the ideal place for technically sound ones; however, there are many, who cite for the struggle, they have faced during posting their blogs in Drupal. There are a couple of reasons, why many web users are switching from Drupal to WordPress. If you are interested to imbibe the process for a better blogging experience, here are some tips on how to migrate from Drupal to WordPress, mentioned below. Before landing on the topic, let's take a look why you might need the switch.

Why WordPress is better than Drupal:

  •     WordPress is quicker than Drupal. The tasks that you can perform on Drupal, can be executed much faster on WordPress.
  •     WordPress has the autosave option, which takes care of your incomplete content, while on Drupal, there is no such option in the text editor.
  •     WordPress offers more Plugins.
  •     WordPress has the Thesis theme, which takes extra care to make your page rank higher in search engines.
  •     There is WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor on WordPress, with which you don't have to take extra burdens to add HTML links.
  •     Moderating comments is easier on WordPress.

How to switch to WordPress from Drupal:Migrating from Drupal to WordPress is not an easy task. You first need to work on the offline copies in the archive. Dump Drupal database from your system and import it into a fresh database. You can use MySQL for this conversion.

Install WordPress into your system, using the old database server, where the Drupal database is kept. You now have Drupal and WordPress running on the same server but in separate database. Don't forget to give unique names to the databases.

You may need some programming knowledge with MySQL and PHP to work on Drupal. You can enable PHP on Drupal following the path:

/drupal/admin/settings/filters

You need to change the location; else Google will consider it as duplicate content. With slight coding, you can inform Google that the content is being shifted from Drupal to WordPress. After the switch, whenever, you need to post something, just enable 'Input Format'.

This is the basic procedure of migrating from Drupal to WordPress. Now log in to WordPress site and you will supposedly find all your contents and posts along with the comments on your new WordPress site. If you find all your posts and comments in the migrated database, you can dump the WordPress database and import the archive into a new database on the server. Now a new WordPress should be installed and configured on the server so that you can use the new database properly.

Your wordPress site is ready. Happy blogging!

Moving a WordPress Blog to a New Hosting Account

What You'll need:

  •     Login information for old and new hosting accounts (example: GoDaddy)
  •     Login information for your old and new MySQL database
  •     Third party file upload (FileZila)
  •     Text edit program (not a word processor like Microsoft Word)

First and foremost - you are going to need to save your settings for the theme your using. I use Weaver Pro so I log in to the administration settings and click on the Save/Restore tab. I save all of my weaver theme settings to my desktop.

STEP 2: Locate Your Current Database
  •     Log in to the hosting account for the CURRENT hosting where the website is located (the one you are moving the website OUT of). I use GoDaddy so I have more details regarding their steps but you can use this guide for most other hosting programs.
  •     Launch the hosting account
  •     Open your MySQL database and select the correct database.
  •     Click on your php admin and enter the database name and password. Hint: if you don't know what the password is you can either locate the password in the wp-config file or you can simply reset the password under "Details". This is located next to the php admin button under "Actions" in GoDaddy.

STEP 3: Export Your Current Database
  •     Once you are in your php admin, look at the left hand side of the screen. You will see at least 2 lines that have: 1. Your database name with a number in the parentheses and 2. "Information schema" with a number in the parentheses.
  •     Click on your database name. A table with appear in the main section.
  •     Below this table you will see "Check All" - click on that and all of the boxes will be checked.
  •     Go up to the top area and locate the "Export" Tab. Click on that tab.
  •     Toward the bottom of this area are the option for saving your exported database. Make sure you click on the zip option.
  •     Click "Go" and save to your desktop for easy location.

NOTE: Follow Step 4 if the primary domain of your website is changing. If it will stay the same then you can skip this step and move onto step 5.

STEP 4: Update the Domain Name
  •     Go to your desktop and locate the zip file you just saved. Unzip the file (for a mac just double click on it) and you will see a file appear that has your database name with the extension ".sql".
  •     Open this file with your text editor
  •     Open your find/replace tool. Type in the name of your current domain (the one you want to change) in the "Find" area.
  •     Next, type in the name of the domain you are changing your website to.
  •     Hit "Replace All"
  •     Save this file.

STEP 5: Download Your Website's Files and Folders
  •     Open your FileZila or other third party file download program.
  •     Enter in the domain name of the hosting account (remember this is the hosting program we are no longer using but we need to get the files out of it first).
  •     Enter the FTP user and password. Note: you may need to login into your hosting (for example: login via GoDaddy and launch your hosting) and click on FTP Users to find this info.
  •     Once you have typed in this information, click on "Quick Connect" to access the folders and files in that hosting account.
  •     In the bottom area of the FileZila Screen you will see 2 sections side by side. We are going to work from the RIGHT hand side - this is your hosting account. Locate the folder of your website.
  •     Right click on the folder and select "Download". Note: Make sure you download the whole folder - it is much easier to keep all the files organized.

This process takes a while - especially if you have a lot of content. Remember that if you access this hosting account through GoDaddy (or whichever company you use) while FileZila is downloading your files then it will automatically drop the connection. It's annoying so I suggest doing something else for a few minutes while these files download. Once it's all finished, move onto step 6

STEP 6: Upload Website Files into New Hosting
  •     Look to the LEFT section now in FileZila and scroll through the folders until you find the folder you just downloaded.
  •     Drag that whole folder onto your desktop just like you would if you were moving any kind of folder or file around on your desktop.
  •     Now we are going to access the NEW hosting account through FileZila. Please note that in order for us to complete this step, you will have to have your new domain in there first.
  •     Type in the domain for the NEW hosting account as well as the FTP user and password. Hit Quick Connect
  •     On the RIGHT hand section locate the folder of your new domain name.
  •     Keep the FileZila window open but go to your desktop and open up the folder we just downloaded.
  •     Select all of these files.
  •     Drag all of these files over to the FileZila window and make sure your mouse is on top of the new folder.
  •     Drop all the files into the new folder and FileZila will start the uploading process.

IMPORTANT: I should point out that you need to open the folder on the desktop and select all of the items instead of just dragging and dropping the folder itself. The reason is because the folder is a "directory". So, if you dropped the folder labeled, for example, "Myoldwebsite" from your desktop in the folder of your new site labeled "Newwebsite" then the URL of the new site would be [http://www.newwebsite.com/myoldwebsite]. That's not what we want. We want the FILES to be in [http://www.newwebsite.com].

Wait until the files have completely finished uploading before moving onto the next step.

STEP 7: Import Your Website's Databse
  •     Go to GoDaddy.com (or whichever hosting program you use) and launch the new hosting.
  •     Open up MySQL and log int to your php admin.
  •     Remember the.sql file we exported (and modified if applicable)? We are going to import that file.
  •     Go to the "Import" tab.
  •     You will see a button that says "Browse" - click on that and locate the.sql file. Note: don't import the zip file - it needs to say.sql.
  •     Click on "Go" in the lower right hand corner.
  •     The database should import at this time.

Note: If you are replacing this database with another, then there will be files in there already. You need to check all and "drop" them first before proceeding.

STEP 8: Update the Wp-config File
  •     Now we have to make sure the website is pointing to the correct database. Launch the new hosting account and select MySQL databases.
  •     Find the correct database and click on Actions. Select "Details"
  •     We will need to copy 3 items from this screen - database name, user name, and the host name
  •     Copy and past these into a text file. We are going to need them in the next step.
  •     Launch the new hosting FTP File Manager.
  •     Locate the folder for your new website and click on it. The files inside the folder should appear in a list.
  •     Select the file that says "wp-config.php" and click on "Edit" - usually located near the top.
  •     We need to replace the database name, user name, and host name with the information we just copied. This will make the website point to the new database we set up - not the one it just came from.

STEP 9: Check your website. If all of these steps were done correctly then your website should appear in the new domain name.

- If you are using Weaver II Pro, it's possible that some of the settings may not be working properly. Go to your admin and restore the settings you saved by clicking on the Save/Restore Tab.

Importance of Content Writing - Important Tips to Keep in Mind for Every Article Writer

Stick to the Point - Don't Blabber

If you want to get your point across or drive traffic to your site and keep it there, it's not enough to write an article or review article of a certain length. Quite often, someone will click on a link that looks as if it will deliver the information they want only to be met with paragraph after paragraph of facts and prose that they don't want. Failing to see what they were looking for, they close the site in disgust and browse for another source.

Be Short and Crisp

People lose interest in text that doesn't tell them what they want in brief, concise sentences that are easy to understand. 80% will not read a page they are directed to if they are met with a long-winded article that could be written in just a couple of paragraphs. Good article writing gets tested on such grounds as the writer should explain the needed information so as to keep customer attention.

For instance, a person looking for a review of a new diet product wants to know how effective it is, an idea of the cost and maybe what health benefits it can give them. That can be turned into an engaging, interesting article of about 300-400 words. Not finding the short, informative review they wanted, the reader will leave and seek out another source.

Importance of Keywords

Keywords are also very important in crafting a good article. Your site won't attract traffic without the proper "street signs" for the search engines. Proper keywords must be well crafted while taking into account the way that the majority of web traffic searches. Someone looking for car insurance in Iowa will usually insert "Iowa car insurance" in a search engine. This phrase is easy to insert in an article and allows the language to flow smoothly. Search engine optimization is a combination of experience, knowledge, word skills and understanding the way the average person searches. Our expert SEO article writers ensure that such factors are taken into consideration and equal importance is given to both Search Engines and customers.

Website Content writing  plays a very crucial role for every website. It shows both the Customer and Google that you are a serious Marketer and are looking to help customers.

WordPress Vs Drupal: Which Is Better?

WordPress or Drupal are the most popular choices for a CMS (content management system) among webmasters and bloggers recently. WordPress vs. Drupal has become the great debate on the internet to decide which content management system is superior. There are many similarities between the two and there are a few significant differences in some situations as well. Each CMS is constantly offering compatibility and security upgrades to keep pace with all the major browsers and applications online. Ultimately, it is up to the individual to decide which CMS choice is the most likely to be a success.

Understanding the WordPress and Drupal CMS

In the simplest perceptive possible one could say that WordPress appeals more to the amateur webmaster and blogger, whereas Drupal is more akin to webmasters, programmers and designers. The reality is that Drupal is easy enough for just about anyone to operate and both are open-source systems, so there are constantly programmers and designers developing new plugins and themes each week. The consensus seems to be that WordPress is more user-friendly while Drupal is a more extensive system and has more capabilities available to the webmaster. Each of these systems is only for the website management; webmasters will still need to find the best hosting.

The differences between WordPress and Drupal

A few major differences divide most webmasters between either CMS eventually. Most people will start their site-building experience with WordPress but more people in general use Drupal to build and update websites. WordPress is ideal for simple websites and blogs that only require quick and effortless setup or maintenance.

Drupal is ideal for building the more complicated websites like ecommerce sites and sites with webpages in various formats. Many people will outsource the developing or maintenance work for Drupal websites opposed to the DIY approach for WordPress sites. Many bloggers and novice webmasters are just as capable of managing WordPress as Drupal. However, it is more than likely that webmasters using Drupal will have greater demands and aspirations than a WordPress site.

Strong support for either WordPress or Drupal

Each of these content management systems has had a very strong following on the internet for many years. Drupal has high-quality extensions, plugins and a few standard themes available as well. Drupal is also highly customizable so much of the editing and changes will are by in-house by employees or private developers.

WordPress has a vast number of new themes, plugins and widgets added by private developers daily so webmasters and bloggers can always find something different and innovative to add to their sites. WordPress users merely need to search the internet for the latest modifications opposed to Drupal users who can always create and innovate. The front end user interface of Drupal is more customizable and has more diverse capabilities than the front end of the WordPress content management system.

WordPress has one of the largest communities on the internet so it is very quick and easy for bloggers and webmasters to find answers or support for new ventures. The capabilities of Drupal enable webmasters to stand out more on the internet by creating more unique webpages than when using WordPress. Ultimately, it seems many webmasters migrate to Drupal once their entrepreneurial aspirations have outgrown the WordPress platform, and they are tired of searching for a work-around. Many people stay with WordPress because of the user-friendly interface, the lack of computer knowledge or for the strong community and web applications.

Why WordPress is a different CMS

The blog service and strong community supports are what really sets WordPress apart from Drupal. Blogging on WordPress is arguably now more popular than using Google's Blogger. WordPress has created an invaluable niche with consumers by providing an avenue to blog and management system to run websites as well. This dynamic has built a trusting relationship with many internet users who will most likely only be threatened out of frustration. Drupal is more appealing to businesses and professionals opposed to the individually untrained consumer with non-professional aspirations.

In order to make the best decision between picking Drupal or WordPress, webmasters and bloggers will have to consider and prioritize the needs of the website. Simple setups for fast turn-around and bloggers may be more inclined to choose WordPress. Developers and bloggers also like WordPress for the supportive and potentially lucrative community of over 60 million webmasters. For webmasters wanting to build a website that could really grow or those who own businesses, Drupal may be the right choice in for the long-term. Both content management systems are flagship products so there will not be any disappoint in quality of the product more importantly, webmasters need to choose the best CMS to fulfill their individual needs.

A wealth of useful information on affiliate marketing SEO and other aspects of making money online as well as various aspects of WordPress to include WordPress widgets.

Is the Interspire Website Publisher Content Management System Right For Your Website?

Over the years I have worked with many different Content Management Systems - from scratch built to using open-source applications such as Joomla, WordPress, Drupal, and others, to commercial software such as Interspire's Website Publisher.

I have had the opportunity to work to learn first-hand what makes a system mediocre, and what makes a system outstanding, like the Interspire Website Publisher.

What is a Content Management System (CMS)?

A content management system is a software application that runs on your website server, allowing you manage your website through the use of a database, a website template and application code.

The explosion of blogs today is largely because of easy-to-use websites with content management systems that allow users to easily create the website and change content.

With your own CMS, you and your staff can fully control your website content, and make updates at any time, without having to rely on your IT department or your website's webmaster.

You Should Use a CMS to:

  •     Have full control over all your website content.
  •     Have a secure Administration login and management via a web page.
  •     Allow staff to login and make content changes easily.
  •     Add and delete pages.
  •     Update the website without the need of programming or HTML skills.
  •     Control the website content publishing process.

Why Consider Website Publisher?

Interspire has been creating commercial web-based software since 2003, and Website Publisher is one of several products in its suite of website applications.

The Administration system is clear and concise, allowing the Administrator to easily add new content to existing pages, add pages and easily switch website templates to totally change the look of a website if needed.

Website Publisher supports several types of content, from website pages, to articles and blogs, making a very flexible CMS for corporate websites, individuals and organizations.

Website Publisher offers the non-technical Administrator a high degree of flexibility over the website pages, with the ability to a create different types of page layouts, and using drag and drop content blocks.

Here are just a handful of features:
  •     W3C/XHTML Compliant Templates

  •     Customizable Built-in Pages
  •     Optimized by SEO Experts
  •     SEO-Friendly Links
  •     CAPTCHA Form Security
  •     WYSIWYG Editor
  •     Content Caching

Web Content Writing Tips From Masterchef Kitchen

Web content writing is like cooking. If you prepare web content with right flavours and in right proportions you can make your clients feel satisfied. Those who are in content writing jobs have a lot to learn from kitchen. People eat with their palates. People eat with their eyes as well. Same goes true for content writing. Whatever you write, be it web content, articles, blog posts, banners or ad copy, should appeal to both taste and eyes of a web reader.

Content writers have a good lesson to learn from Masterchef Australia, the greatest cookery reality show on Star World. Masterchef Australia 2011 had an elimination episode where two skilled cooks, Kate Bracks and Billy Law were competing against each other. Both of them were asked to reproduce a dish. Billy's dish had all ingredients intact; it was filled with the right ingredients and was brilliant in presentation. But it lacked flavours. Kate's presentation was ordinary compared to Billy's; but her dish was brimming with flavours.

Here comes the million dollar question: if the choice is between presentation and flavours, what do people choose? Masterchef Australia's judging panel chose flavour over presentation. The web content you prepare might have all the data in place, filled with information and statistics. But will your clients vote for it if your copy lacks flavour? Chances, I would say, are very thin.

How to create great flavours

Flavour is a tricky word. People are misled to believe that having all ingredients in web content means having good flavours. Great flavours are produced when right ingredients are mixed in right proportions. The fact that you have plated everything in your copy doesn't guarantee successful copy.

Here are a few tricks to produce web content with appealing flavours

Pay attention to requirements: The most important step is to pay close attention to the client brief. Different kinds of writing demand different kinds of flavours. The words and ideas you use for web content might be different from the ones you use for a case study or brochure writing. Choose your flavours with care.

Maintain keyword balance: Keywords can enhance your writing; they can spoil your writing as well. Choose the right key words and use them in the right ratio. Keywords are like garlic. If chosen wisely and proportionately they carry health and flavour. If used excessively, it can drive people from a mile away.

Balance your words: Having a great vocabulary doesn't equate to quality writing. To enhance your content writing skills, you should learn to choose appropriate words, avoid repetition and maintain logical flow.

Try the new: Creating flavours requires courage to try new things. You should be confident enough to mix your ideas, bring in new concepts and imageries and plate them in a likeable fashion. Many a time people go for the old not just because they like it. People are compelled to go for the old because they are not being offered new things. Novelty is a key ingredient to create flavours for content writing.

Do not overload information: Information is the backbone of any web content writing. Data you use should be credible, verifiable and devoid of factual errors. A dish plated with excessive cheese or spices can be a turn off for a seasoned food lover. Likewise articles or web content loaded with data, numbers or statistics may scare a reader off. Pick information wisely and use it without losing the symmetry of writing.

Keep it fresh and serve it hot: An important factor in producing and sustaining flavours is freshness. Use fresh, updated and contemporary data. Outdated information and banal usages are to be carefully avoided. Those who are in content writing profession need to keep their eyes and ears open all the time to receive new and interesting information.

Web content prepared this way can induce flavours that will get you new clients and keep your old ones happy.

Advantages Of Outsourcing Content Writing Services

A good Content Writing Company employs professionals who are highly skilled in composing articles of any kind that and other web content material. They are trained to perfection by experts helping writers to build links, teaching them how to avoid plagiarism and how densely to use key words for a reader's easy access to the content. These and much more constitute the myriad advantages of outsourcing to a Content Writing Company.

The writers are usually well versed in the changes of techniques and practices in this field, so that those hiring them will be relieved of the burden of keeping up with the latest content writing trends and can rather focus on the core of the SEO services. So, not only does the search engine optimizer stop worrying about the aptly used key words, he can also get original content that with its language, simplicity and information, attracts and retains the reader and simultaneously promotes the website. This paves the way for better search engine rankings.

Moreover, a fine Content Writing Company delivers the work on time, that too at a very minimal cost compared to the search engine optimizer's idea of keeping in-house writers - this not only increases the cost of employing them, it comes with additional load of managing yet another department. The writers at a good firm have a good background and history of writing, and educational qualifications, as technical experts or, journalism and literature graduates. So the quality of the content expected and delivered is unquestionably sound, serious, well-researched and impeccable.

One can first test a Content Writing Company by asking for sample articles, assigning diverse topics, and note the level of dedication and punctuality, before deciding to outsource the work. Outsourcing to the right Content Writing Company makes all the difference to the business and client satisfaction. Companies do not hesitate to take help of experts in particular areas, for example, they can employ a medical practitioner if the content requires knowledge and precision on that subject. Though outsourcing to companies abroad might show some initial disparities of the writer's native culture and style that reflects in the content, writers take no time to adapt to the style that is required. So, all in all, outsourcing eases one's work extensively, with a positive outcome, and steady maintenance of standard.

What Are the Things You Really Need to Know About WordPress Website Design?

WordPress started out as a very basic open source tool, but has evolved into a very high-end CMS (content management system) and blogging platform. The possibilities that WordPress offers are potentially limitless, however, when employing a company to build a WordPress Website, you need to be aware of few factors.

Read below to know more:

Content

First of all, companies that offer WordPress developing services are hired to build your website and offer an easy to work with platform. These companies are not tasked with or employed for providing content. This is up to you. The entire purpose of WordPress is to express ideas (in other words, blog), and add content that makes users coming back.

This means that you must undertake the responsibility of providing constant, grammatically correct content that stays relevant in time. Usually, WordPress content remains unchanged, so the initial quality must be impeccable and have a long-lasting appeal. If you don't plan on modifying the uploaded content, ask your designer company to build your website using HTML or CSS, as these tend to load faster on slow connections and are generally more stable and secure.

If, however, you plan on editing content a lot and relying on user interaction, you should instruct the WordPress Designer to rely more heavily on PHP or MySQL.

Responsive Design

Professional WordPress web-developers will design a website using responsive design, but smaller companies or freelancers might omit this fact, so you need to make sure your website is developed and design in a way that works on any operating system and device. Users react negatively if they can't easily access information and content on their tablets or mobile phones, so emphasize the need for responsive design to the contracted company or individual.

Moderation

WordPress is about sharing ideas. And when people share ideas, disagreements often arise and can get out of hand. It's imperative to moderate comments and posts and keep your website as clean as possible.

If you don't do this from the very beginning and constantly, you'll soon have a website filled with spam and negative comments and language on your hands, and that can be very hard to fix. Users that find spam or negative attitudes in comments will quickly migrate towards better moderated blogs or websites.

To avoid this, ask your WordPress designer to build an easy to moderate website so you can be as effective as possible at moderating.

Security

Many people use WordPress to build their websites because it seems easy to use. However, WordPress is vulnerable to hacking and spam just like any other platform out there. This is why you should employ a serious WordPress specialized web designer. A specialist in the field will be able to implement security measures to keep the spam, malware and hackers at bay. Nothing is worse than working weeks or months on setting up a WordPress Website and filling it with quality content, only to see it die away to an abundance of malicious attacks and spam-bots.

All in all, while WordPress may seem like an newbie-friendly tool to build websites, it is still highly recommended to invest into a Professional WordPress Website Design Company, in order to avoid many of the complications that can and most likely will arise otherwise.

The 5-Step Strategy to Make the Big Switch From HTML to WordPress

Migrating from an HTML site to the reliable and scalable WP CMS can work wonders for your online presence. Your site is rendered with more interactivity and attracts higher visibility. But, before you decide to make the big switch, you need to have a thorough understanding of the entire migration process. Here's an overview of the 5 major steps that are involved in the HTML to WordPress Migration process.

Step 1: Grab some info!

Before you take any step in the direction of HTML to WordPress conversion, it is essential that you look around and gather key information related to your website. Before making the big switch, you need to know your website well. Browsing through the website will help you in acknowledging the style and navigation, but there are several hidden things that you won't be able to catch hold of, such as confirmation messages, hidden sales pages, downloads, forms etc. It is essential that you have apt knowledge of all of these pages so the scope of your project is defined properly. A well-defined scope will help in faster migration of your site.

Step 2: It's Development Time.

This is most stretched stage of the entire migration process. Most of the designing work is accomplished at this stage. During the development phase, developers will conduct a thorough review of your site and design its structure in WordPress accordingly. Development takes place away from your domain and regular hosting, usually in a 'Sandbox' environment. It facilitates the developers at the time of designing, testing and migrating content and ensures that your HTML site is intact while its WP counterpart is underway. Some major steps involved in this phase are enlisted below:

  •     Designing and defining loading logos, header and header images.
  •     Defining the basic navigation structure, this will evolve during the development phase as well as throughout the content migration process.
  •     Incorporating basic plug-ins that will facilitate the development of footers and sidebars, which will prove beneficial during the migration process as well as at the later stages for content updation
  •     Developing initial templates for pages such as Blog page and Home Page
  •     Adding images, defining style templates, styling content area etc.

Step 3: Time for the Big Switch: Migration

As understood, this is the most critical phase in the entire process. However, it is not as easy as it sounds. Migrating content from HTML site to WP template is a long haul as it is more than just simple copy-paste. It is often seen that the HTML sites are fluffed with unnecessary, irrelevant code snippets that do not fit well with the well-defined, clean and semantic structure of the new WP version. Thus, you need to keep a close eye on the content every time a part of it is migrated. The migration stage comprises of following crucial steps:
  •     Migrating the content from main posts and pages
  •     Migrating the content on sidebar or updating it with new WP functionality, whichever is defined in the scope document.
  •     Migrating the navigation structure, if no new structure has been defined during the development stage
  •     Migrating images and uploading related links

Step 4: Ready for the Big Launch

It sounds exciting and easy, but that isn't the case. This step of HTML to WordPress migration is highly stressful. During this stage you need to ensure that your host is ready to accept WP installation. In case you haven't decided upon a host yet, you need to choose one now, which fits in the budget and requisitions of your business. Prior to making the big switch, you need to ensure that all the files have been transferred to your host server. This will minimize the down time of the site on the decided day of launch. Once the file transfer is complete, you need to modify the DNS nameservers. This will make the down time of your site lie anywhere between 2 and 48 hours.

Step 5: Scouting Time!

It's time to act like a scout and check your site over and over again. You don't want to see any bugs once your site goes live, so go through each and every section of your site thoroughly to make sure there are no underlying code errors or broken links. Also ensure that all the content has been migrated and placed properly. Precaution is always better than cure.

And You Are Good to Go!

Finally! You have switched your old school HTML site with robust and scalable WordPress portal. You can go live and enjoy the numerous benefits of the newly acquired CMS.
